OCTOBER 16th, 2008-THE PAST and THE FUTURE

Hip-hop par-ty for golfers in San Francisco
About three years ago, I put on this event in San Francisco.
That seems like a long time ago considering where this project has come from.

It has been a wild ride, but in the end, I knew it would be for a project like this is never easy to get off the ground.

GOLFERS, GET ready to trade in your plaid pants and polos for some serious bling when golf goes ghetto-fabulous at the Urban Country Club.

The sport usually associated with country clubs takes to the streets of San Francisco at an outdoor hip-hop show benefiting the New Orleans Boys & Girls Club on Saturday. The RZA of Wu Tang fame emcees the event, which features a nine-hole putt-putt course, pimped out golf carts and graffiti artists galore.

The Urban Country Club was created by multimedia event producers Mack Daddy Caddy in response to the inaccessibility and exclusivity of the sport. Hip-hop and urban culture breathe new life into the otherwise straight-laced sport, creating a "fresh and funktified" image, says Luke Kohl, co-founder of Mack Daddy Caddy.

The Urban Country Club is divided into a morning and afternoon session. Tee off at 11 a.m. with Kevvy Kev, Stanford's host of "The Drum," the longest running hip-hop radio show in the nation, as he hosts an hour-long forum with champion golfer Walter Morgan. The RZA and DJ Evil E join Morgan on the panel and discuss staying at the top of your game, be it music or golf. The country club reopens at 2 p.m. with a concert by The RZA, Evil E, Rasco, Jennifer Johns, Sake 1 and includes break dancing and a

3,600-square-foot putt-putt course.
